Hello,

My mother board is Gigabyte GA-81848PM. I assume the M is for micro version of GA-81848P. My CPU socket is 478. I want to upgrade my CPU from a Pentium 4 3.2ghz. Is this possible?

The fastest Socket 478 CPU runs at 3.4 GHz, so I wouldn't bother.

agree, save the money and get a new computer with it.

Almost all of todays cpu's are many times more powerful than the p4.

Try an overclock if your memory and cooling can handle it.

On the P4's, i dont think it really worth it unless you get into the 4+ghz. Which will require massive cooling.

I've overclock my p4 before up into the 3.2-3.4 range from 2.8Ghz but i never notice a difference in performance (although i did see a major jump in temps on my Prescott.)
