280 Gtx or 5850

HELLO!
i am upgrading my computer and debating on a graphics card upgrade.

currently using a BFG 280 GTX.
with the budget i've got left over I can afford a HD5850.

will it be worth upgrading or not?

what will the performance difference be?

That depends on your other components. If your cpu is weak then it might be better upgrading that instead.

Otherwise, the 5850 is a good bit faster than a 280gtx. You might not notice it in a lot of games unless you play at very high resolution.

im going to be upgrading a I7 920 6gb memory. i run on 1440*900 sometimes on my TV which is 1920*1080

At 1440x900 its probably not worth upgrading. At 1920x1080 it might be, but the 280gtx is still a very capable card.

A lot depends on how much you can afford to basically pay a few $hundred on what isn't a huge upgrade. If you can get a decent price for the 280 on ebay it might be worth it, otherwise...I'd have to say no it's probably not worth that upgrade - probably best to wait on either the 5890 or Fermi if it ever gets released.

Another option is to get a bigger lcd for normal use. I'd want to be on at least 1680x1050 by now and I would consider that upgrade before upgrading your card.

ill stick with the 280 gtx might spend the extra and get the 940. do you think there will be much of a diff between 920 and 940? (noticeably)

No not really, And not at all if you overclock. I'd invest in a 1920x1080 monitor.

why would you upgrade?, any game particularly that you dont have the best experience?

Dont throw away money. 5850 would be between 10% and 50% faster and on average probably 25% faster.
