How can i tell whats worng with my hp laptop

hi my laptop says a Disk Read error occurred when i start it up, would you be able to tell me whats worng with it

It's looking for a boot device (probably your hard drive), and isn't booting properly. Check the boot order in the BIOS, or hit the boot order option on startup, and make sure you're booting off the hard drive. If you are, and are still getting that error, then you have a bad hard drive, or damaged windows install.

One thing I did that got mine working was to take out my battery and wait 10 mins..then it restarted correctly....not sure why but aford10 is right on the money...taking out the battery won't cost anything though....
