Bios

Hello,
when i boot up my pc all is fine till it tries to load window xp, then i get a message saying hardware problem reset boot sequence. floppy is listed, dvd drives are listed, even printer listed but no hard drive. i thought it was a problem with the floppy but i disconnected that and of course still no hd. can anyone suggest something i might try, short of flashing the bios.
