I hv dg41rq mobo and e5400 cpu. Today i overclock my e5400@3.0ghz(stock cooler) by using setfsb and run stress test (prime 95) and found my oc is stable. Under full load my cpu temp goes upto 80c .

TO decrease the temp i just lower my voltage to 1.1250(using crystal cpuid) and overclock to 3.0 ghz now my max temp under load is about 70c-72c is this temp harmful for my cpu.

From what I've seen your TJMax is around 100C (not positive, you will have to confirm that) which gives you ~30C of headroom. That is workable as an everyday OC but you might want to bring it down a little more if you plan to keep it running with load for any great lengths of time (36+ hrs). I don't think those temps are terrible (nor harmful) for short term usage (ie. 3-5hrs gaming, or video work or...) nor will your CPU ever run at 100% during normal PC usage.

72c is completely fine. to get a better OC you need a better cooler; i had my E5300 up to 3.8 with a cooler from a Q6600 and it would go 68c max.

Nope, under $10, the stock HSF is your best bet. You don't get into effective cooling until about the $25-$30 range. In that range, you have the very popular CM Hyper212+ for about $20 after rebate now at NewEgg

It is a large HSF so you'll need to make sure it will fit inside your case before ordering.

sorry but for $10 what you would get is not any better than what you have now.
best i found for the least is:
Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92 $17.99

for the price it is really good competing with more expensive heatsinks:

the ONLY draw back is it uses push pins, but that will make installation easy for you.

i tried looking on ebay but most were the same size as yours.
