I have a HP pen drive and I extracted files of "Zune Software"(A Microsoft product) and after that i am unable to format that pen drive..i tried following things to format this pen drive but nothing works
1.Windows interface to format.
2.Command prompt
3.Windows disk management.
4.Linux operating system to format the drive.
5.HP software to format pen drives.
6.Hard-Disk low level format tool.
7.Search the registry for "StorageDevicePolicies".
8.Partiton magic.
Every step performed above gave a message " flash drive contain write protected 'media' and unable to complete the format action"......
i.e my pen drive is not write protected the media inside it is write protected now please help me to delete this crappy data(Zune software)...
Please do help.......:(

How about reading this very helpful article:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/272402-32-flash-drive

It says:

My USB Flash device is write protected

How to remove a write protection from your USB memory Stick if there is no Write protection ON or OFF button on stick then
1. Shutdown your computer or laptop
2. Insert USB Memory Stick into your laptop or Computer
3. Turn on laptop and then immediately start pressing (F8) key then Advanced Boot Options screen will come up
4. Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt
5. After loading files if your USB Memory Stick drive letter is (G) for example then write as
6. C:\windows\system32>G: and press enter
7. G:\>format G: and press enter
8. If ask you (Y/N) then press (Y) and press enter
9. Now a full format will start which remove write protection from USB Memory Stick.
Note:
Before removing USB from your computer, Always remove it safely by going into to my computer then right click on USB and click eject

There are various ways to get to Disk Management. In windows 7, click Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management.

CAREFULLY find the drive you want to format. **Warning** all information on the drive will be deleted.**

Right click on the drive and click format.

Once the files provided with the drive have been wiped, you should be able to continue your new format/wipe/install.
