Looking for a recovery disc for windows root system 32

My desktop is asking for Windows root>>system32\ntoskrnl.exe says it's missing or corrupt, please help have all our family pictures on this computer. What am I to do?

Normally ntoskenl.exe is recreated from the Windows CD - See step 5 in this link: Type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32

Before you do anything back up your family pictures! You can do so by booting off of an Ubuntu or Fedora Live CD. then you can access your data and copy it to an external hard disk or thumbdrive.
