I am a bit iffy on the new SSD internal drives, I understand they run faster and that they don't use an actuator or contain platters. But they are also ex-pen-sive especially when its around $3 for each Gigabyte, doesn't even sound worth it. I am trying to find a good Solid, reliable HDD (SATA) large in capacity, can be used for gaming and is affordable. Any suggestions, I was looking at the velicraptor and the caviar black through WD, but after reading so many bad reviews online about WD, I wasn't to happy and just from personal experience, I have a WD that just crapped out on me about a month ago.

I currently use a 2TB Seagate Barracuda XT 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Bare Drive.

Works great for me, good reviews, never had an issue, and WAS pretty cheap.

Obviously, right now is not the time to be buying hard drives. Especially high capacity drives.


In short, I'd wait to buy a HDD. But when you do, get something that is at least 7200 RPM.

I have three seagate 7200.10 drives in my computer. They are fast enough for me. I think the read speeds for them are around 60MB/s. If you get the newer 7200.12/WD blacks you should be fast enough. Hard to beat the speed of the SSD however.

Wouldn't use a green drive as a main use drive. Fine for storage of movies, pics, music, etc.

Wtf is this Intellipower, I read a bit on it where it doesnt actually have a set RPM, and if it does its the lowest and randomly speeds up and slows down when it wants, wtf is this trash? lol

I would not recommend the green. 5900 RPM is sloooooowww.

Still, I would wait. Those prices are still high. I got my HDD (Which is better than both of those in performance and capacity) for only a little over $100 a few months ago.
