More about will bottleneck card
  1. Hells to the yes it will.
  2. then what wont bottleneck it with an am2 socket
  3. That is probably the worst processor to ever come out of the AMD camp. I honestly would not be surprised if it bottlenecks an 8800gt. You need a new processor if you want to game hard.
  4. if the computer was bought from the store and isnt custom built, can the cpu still be upgraded?
  5. as i said int your other thread. if you want a 5850 you probably need to buy a better cpu, i would look on a phenom II x4 940 if your motherboard supports it
  6. thnx guys
  7. though the 940 is an Am3 or Am2+ socket and as you said you have a Am2 socket. i would probably upgrade with something like this

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103279&cm_re=am2_socket_processor-_-19-103-279-_-Product

or maybe if you can find something better. but i would probably go for a 5770 instead of the 5850. because im not sure if there really is anything that has an Am2 socket but wont bottleneck a 5850
  8. First, find out the model number of your MB using CPU-Z.

Secondly, go to the MB's official website and check the CPU support list of it.

Thirdly, get a new MB if it does not support both PII-945 and PII-955.

p.s. Some Asus AM2 MB support 945 but not 955.
