these computers ran perfectly not more then 3 weks ago.. now they won't post.

the hp beeps 4 times (video?) and then the hd goes nuts and bounces around and makes funny noises... i dont get a video signal.


the gateway has no beeps, the lights are green, no video signal. and no heat from the cpu..



should i continue troubleshooting or scrap them?

how do i go about testing things? cpu? video? bus?

how should the jumpers be configured?

Given the age of them, there isn't a whole lot they can do with todays software. I still have my old Pentium Pro 200MHz, and Pentium 2 450MHZ. both work and I hang on to them in case I have a spur of the moment StarCraft LAN party. However if either of them quit working I would just scrap them. It really isn't worth the time to try to fix them. The gateway sounds like it might just be dead, but compare the beep code you got on the HP with this list:

thx! thats some good info

in the end it was just the wrong ram.. all 3work fine now =D

and the celly 800 coppermine cognac board 20000731 is running ubuntu8.04 for crunching boinc WCG and internet.. currently trying to get java working right to play some java games.. but without a decent3d card some games maybe best on a faster pc
