Hard Drive format Issue

Hello,
I am having a Toshiba Canvio 500 GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive E05A050CAU3XS, Recently i had to format the drive because of hdd not reading issue, i had non other option other than formating, after formating the data transfer from PC to drive is very slow? How to improve it? and it is also not getting detected on my lcd tv now?
