Your Computer has a Sigmatel STAC9220 codec.
Alternately, the Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit and Audigy 2 ZS where offered as Optional Upgrades.
Check to see if you have a dedicated sound card.
If you do, take a look at the card itself to see which Creative card you have.
With the last dell 2400 I nuked and started over, I had to pick random drivers from dell till I stumbled on the right one. For whatever reason the driver I needed( or the one that worked) was from a 4800 series. Its not a great suggestion but trial and error works some times.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried to down load the sigmatel driver but after the down load it says no driver were down loaded. I think is say some place where they were no longer supporting the sigmatel driver.
I think I will go buy a sound card and install it. Question is will it over ride the on board card which wont work? I believe it will but thought I wound ask any way.
Thanks for all the help.
Yes, once you have the new sound card installed, you can select it as the default device in the control panel.
If possible, disable the onboard sound through the BIOS after installing an aftermarket card.
