Missing folders

Hi,
I am running win xp on an i3 computer. I've got a 2tb lLG external hdd connected to my pc where I store all my software and videos. My dvd_9 folder had more than 100gb of videos but all the subfolders under dvd_9 have dissappeared and I get a message dvd_9 is not accessible Access is denied and the dvd_9 folder is empty. Can you please advice on this issue.
