What is CrossFire or SLI?

I know there is something called crossfire & SLI where u connect 2 graphic cards.

But what will happen if u do that?

Does it increase performance?
Does it increase resolution?
Or what?

Im having a monitor which is a viewsonic VA1901wm which is 19". Max resolution is 1360*768. Will crossfiring or SLI ing 2 cards be useless or what is the advantage that i will gain?

Maybe you should learn what google is first, and then move on to SLI/Xfire
