What is the difference between a Direct X 11 Graphic card and a direct X 10.1 & 10.
I found that some direct x 10.1 or 10 cards beat the performance of some direct x 11 cards.
So which is better to buy?
The DX11 cards are new and carry a premium price, especially for the 5850,5870, & 5970 cards. However, you may be comparing them a little incorrectly. The 5850 replaces the 4850, and basically doubles the performance of the previous card. The 5870 replaces the 4870, and doubles performance. The 5970 replaces the 4870x2, and doubles performance. The other 2 cards are the 5750 and 5770. The 5750 is new, but the 5770 replaces the 4770. When you compare each card to its previous generation, it knocks the sock off each and every time. However, I am assuming you are comparing prices like everyone else. For example why get a 5770 for $165 when you can get a 4870 for almost the same price and get less performance? The 5770 has DX11, is smaller, and sucks much less power than the 4870. And if you notice the 4xxx series cards are starting to fizzle away. The 4850 is hard to find and the 4870 is getting scarce.
There is a whole handful of games coming our early next year with DX11 support, and I'm ready.
