Hello , im just wondering if the given PSU could hold the following system: 1. Intel core i5 750. 2. OCZ 4g 1333mhz 3. Wd 500gb sata2 32 mb 4. Gigabyte p55-usl3 5. Hd5850 1024mb gddr5 6. Tv card + dvd drive. Do you think a 400W PSU will hold this setup at full throttle? Also , is a coolermaster cm 690 good enough case? Sorry for the mess , im typing from a cellphone :)

Here are the official power requirements for the ATI Radeon HD 5850 and HD 5870 video cards.

ATI Radeon™ HD5850 System Requirements:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors.

600 Watt or greater power supply with four 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.

ATI Radeon™ HD5870 System Requirements:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard.

500 Watt or greater power supply with two, 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors.

600 Watt or greater power supply with four, 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.

The power supply recommendations are for an entire pc system.

The Coolermaster 690 is a very good case.

The 5850 needs 9 amps, peaking to about 15 amps. Figure 8 - 10 amps for the CPU and maybe 3 amps for the drives. That's pretty close to the 30 amp 12 volt rating of the 400CX.

The 450VX, with its 33 amp 12 volt rail is, in my opinion, not enough of an improvement to be worth while.

I'd put a 550VX in the computer.

Tnhanks for the replies , the 550w is a bit out of my budget but I guess its worth it. Also I must ask : Are HEC PSUs any good?

First of all Coolermaster CM690 is a very good case.Go for it. :)

Corsair 400CX will handle that rig for sure but as jsc said there's not much headroom.

+1 for getting Corsair 550VX:

Otherwise
OCZ ModXstream 500W:

OCZ ModXstream 600W:

All these will handle your rig,But corsair offers better quality :)

Instead of looking for the smallest PSU for a given system I suggest buying the biggest quality PSU you can afford. It's the cheapest insurance policy you'll ever buy for overall system performance and it's re-usable.
