Core 2 is a Microsoft brand name for their newer dual and quad core processors.

*intel not microsoft.
Core 2 is the name of the architecture of their processors and has nothing to do with how many cores a processor has. A dual core processor is any processor with two cores. Intel denotes the number of cores their core 2 processors have by putting "duo" or "quad" at the end. so for example "core 2 quad" where core 2 is the architecture and quad is the number of cores.
