Why would you want 125FPS?

What is your budget??
December 8, 2009 5:05:54 PM

HOLY, 125FPS!? I play with 60-80fps on a 1920x1080 with two 4850's (512mb) in crossfire. I don't think my rig is overkill because I want a pleasurable experience while gaming but I think it may be more than other people would want. I think you can build one for around anywhere $800-1000 depending on what parts/brands.

Are you looking for a complete system that you will build, or a prebuilt machine?

125FPS is ridiculous. If your screen has a refresh rate of 60Hz anything over that is a waste. Turn on Vsync and it will hold that frequency.

Also, are you in the US or another country?
December 8, 2009 5:33:02 PM

my budget is 1800 $ the 125fps is along story so if u could tell me how can i get it i would be grateful its not about how the game image looks.

oh and i want it from the motherboard to the end. not only gpu

1) is that $1800 US?
2) if not in the Us, where are you (many countries post to these forums)
3) why are you limiting yourself to intel CPU and Nvidia gpu? (if you are asking for advice you shouldn't be limiting your choices. BTW ATI new cards beat out all nvidia's offerings right now)
4) 125FPS is pointless. My guess is javascript:%20validform(this);you are trying to outdo a buddy. I've been there, dueling with a fellow gamer. But we are just saying, visually you won't see a difference. So the only reason could be bragging rights.
5) Are you planning to build yourself or are you looking for a prebuild?
December 8, 2009 6:43:01 PM

Well fiirst of all with that budget you can build a monster that is capable of 250FPS, but it seems you have a misconception when it comes to FPS. After 50/60 FPS your eye will not be able to tell the difference. What you need is a system that can run the games that you play at 1680x1050 without any lag.

From what I understand MW2 uses the same DX9 engine that COD4 uses. My machine produces WELL over 125FPS, but its oddly gittery. I turn on vsync and it locks ate 60FPS and is smooth as butter. COD4 and i would assume MW2 isn't really a demanding title.
December 8, 2009 7:38:36 PM

^^ yep, I get 75-80FPS with EVERYTHING maxed out including xAA . With vsync on it drops to 60FPS and it's smooth as butter as well.....

The funny thing is that many think that the more FPS the better, I even had an argument with someone here on Tom's saying that he gets 350+ frames on CS, he basically said that he can tell the difference from 100 to 200FPS.... People need to read and educate themselves before they go buy some crazy hardware to attain as many frames as possible....
December 8, 2009 8:30:11 PM

Well you can (at least I can, in some games) tell the difference between 60 fps and 120 fps (ie Halo CE), but MW and MW2 aren't it.

Anyways if you got money to burn:
i7 920 WCed and OCed
ASUS P6T Deluxe v2
Intel X25M G2 (OS/Games)
1x 500GB Samsung F3 (Data)
2x ATI 5850s or 5870s or 5970s in CrossFire or nVidia GTX295 in SLI
Corsair 750HX or 1000HX
HAF 932
December 8, 2009 8:38:39 PM

Well most of us would rather have 60/75FPS with eye-candy on high as opposed to 300FPS with shady textures....Thats my point....
December 8, 2009 8:57:00 PM

I guess we still need to know if the 1800.00$ is US or not.... If indeed it is US currency I would first opt for a large LCD, something like a 28" 1920 x 1200 and use the smaller screen to monitor hardware temps and so forth.... You can do wonders with a budget like that....

If it is not US currency then who knows.......
December 8, 2009 9:13:33 PM

theres a reason why he specifically wants 125 fps. that includes unfair use of jumping abilities at that fps.

so educating him about image quality wont do.
December 8, 2009 9:31:32 PM

"unfair use of jumping abilities" ????
December 9, 2009 12:23:14 AM

^Yes. 125fps lets you jump a little bit further in CS/CSS/HL2 games. Imo, this matters only if OP's trying to go pro AND playing on pro level servers. Not sure if this works on MW2 though.

Man I should be able to jump like there is moon gravity! hehe. Wonder if that really works? I don't think there is to many times when I would say, "darn, I wish I could jump an inch higher".
December 9, 2009 2:21:25 AM

Well that obviously doesn't work in MW2, would be nice though.....
December 9, 2009 10:45:24 AM

its US currency looks like wh3resmycar is the only 1 that understands i don't want to go into an arguement trying to explain why 125 fps i just want somebody to tell me what parts are the best for this am thinking of GTX 275 Intel core 2 Quad cpu with 4 or 6 gigs raM.

am not sure about the fps if works in MW2 but i don't care even if i get 100 fps in it.

$1800 = Intel i7 & ATI 5870 It will make you jump higher.

@OP: I DID give you the specs for the rig! And yes, I DO understand what you are trying to do.

Kinda expensive for a small advantage, isn't it?

lol kk i just forgot to mention u, anywayz ain't 2 Gtx295 in sli overkill for 1680 ? 1 is enough to max cod4 at 250 with most things on high, and i think it can handle mw2 in constant 125 can't it ?
December 9, 2009 2:49:35 PM

Even a single 295 is overkill for 1680x1050 res.... You can get 125 FPS with a GTX 275 paired with an i7 920....

Still makes no sense , but oh well.... maybe later on in life you will understand what we are trying to explain.....

Cod4 and Cod6 run under the same engine, there is not diffference other than the fact that cod6 is a bit more demanding GPU-wise.....

lol i understand what u say , its u who doesn't understand in games like cod4 which are based on the Q3 Engine the better the fps the better the game play with higher fps u can jump higher hit targets more accurately in backandslash they even showed some tests that shows bullets fire a very little bit faster . u might say there is no point of that but When u play in competitive gaming u ll see what i mean.

Oh? I'd really like to see those tests. Any links?
December 9, 2009 6:42:30 PM

Well I have been playing FPS for about 14 years and never heard/seen where you can jump higher at 125FPS as opposed to 60FPS. Maybe this is on certain games? I have the whole CoD collection as well. I guess you learn something new everyday =)
December 10, 2009 5:08:00 AM

actually it does.

there are certain jump scenario where i cant clip on to a railing when im playing with "vsync on" as oppose to when it is turned off. but since screen tearing hurts my eyes i usually play it turned on. (to hell with jumping anyway).

anyway i aint pro so like what ive said. its all "unfair". but if its pro vs pro, yeah they could kill each other.

i believe anything with a 5850 (paired a 4ghz c2d) and higher can give you constant 125fps on multiplayer skirmish. problem is most benchies on the net are done on the single player levels which are more demanding.
December 10, 2009 1:26:08 PM

Yea but that is when you are playing in a modded server (cod4), has nothing to do with jumping and a .8ms advantage when shooting is not really an advantage IMO. I will stick with my 60FPS capped by vsync....
December 10, 2009 8:47:43 PM

^Yeah... like I thought, those seem to be on modded servers only. So unless you play heavily on moded servers it's really not worth it.

Imo, it all comes down to personal preference and the money vs performance (ie. Are you really sure to spend $250-300 more for a very negligible advantage? )

Anyways, it's OPs money, so the build I gave will still work.
December 10, 2009 8:53:50 PM

Hey Shadow, how do I insert a pic ^^ in my signature box? Like the ones you have above??? I just want to put the CPU-Z "validator" in my siggy but never learned how to do it....

December 10, 2009 10:17:29 PM

Use the following code:
[img]<insert image link here>[/img]

Make sure you copy the direct link to the image (usually ends in .jpg, etc), not the URL. ;)
December 11, 2009 3:45:22 AM

Thank you, much appreciated !!!!

makes sense now, i was copying the link off of the Valid Canard page instead of uploading the pick to photobucket =)
