Cd burner won\'t work, or play anything after upgrade

i upgraded Windows and now my cd burner won't burn and won't play, HELP!!!!

There's a guy here that has some sort of magic(?) that he has people do. I remember it involves deleting something... not sure anymore. Anyway, nobody has ever come back to gripe that it didn't work, so maybe if you ask him, he'll dispense his method to you and you'll have that thing running again.
