Ok,so I'm just getting started in the computer world, and yes I'm learning, but I don't know the basics of overclocking. If you could, I'd like to know the name of each type of overclock for CPU, GPU, and Motherboard and how each one is accomplished. I don't need the in depth on how it's accomplished or what each overclock does and how it works. I just need something to grasp onto in plain English, cause' iv'e read all the articles but they dont tell you how it works or what it accomplishes.

More about : basics overclocking

There's not really a specific name for a CPU or GPU overclock, most people will just specify the component they're overclocking.

Overclocking is basically just increasing the operating frequency of a component so that it performs faster.

Most CPU overclocks are set in the BIOS (basic input output system) and then tested within the OS (operating system, like Windows).

Almost all GPU overclocks are set and tested with the OS using various programs like MSI Afterburner, Sapphire Trixx ETC...
