Update BIOS p6t Mainboard

Hello,
there is a problem with my RAM .
I have 6 gigabyte ram and both XP and 7 OS but it only recognize 3 GB of 6 .
whats the problem ?
someone told me that maybe your BIOS wasn't upgraded , but i dont think so .
