Hi, im building a new computer and im unsure of some of the parts being compatible. Could someone please take a look and let me know if it all works properly. I am buying the parts from eBuyer. I will mainly be using it for gaming and 3D work.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz Socket 775 1333FSB 4MB Cache £130.04

ASUS P5QL PRO iP43 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard £52.81

XFX GTX260 896MB DDR3 Dual DVI Cuda and PhysX ready PCI-E Graphics Card £119.58

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Dominator Memory Kit CL5(5-5-5-15) £78.24

Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM £58.25

Sony AD-5240S 24x DVD±RW DL Internal SATA Black Bare Drive - OEM £14.05

Galaxy Black Mid Tower Case with Blue Bubble Light LED Strip - 450W PSU £26.07

Samsung SM933SN 18.5" Widescreen TFT Monitor 1360x768 300cd/m2 15,000:1 5ms VGA W/Mount Gloss Black - £89.99

Thanks

First off, if your budget allows, spring for an i5 or 955 build with similar parts.

If you don't overclock, this board supports the cpu for less:

Asus P5QPL-AM iG41 Socket 775 onboard VGA 6 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard £38.98

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=7x8IbK8Vs2QULDCh

The ram is overpriced for no overclocking. Get this:

Crucial 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL6 Lifetime Warranty £59.99

The case/psu combo is rubbish. Get this:

Antec Basiq Power 500W PSU - 20+4pin 2x SATA 1x PCI-E 5x Molex £44.97 + Any bare ATX case

or this case/psu combo:

Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Mid Tower Case - With 500W EarthWatts PSU £97.98

What's your budget?

The parts are compatible, but you can get a whole lot more for what you're spending.

If you're interested in some advice on a better build, you should post your budget, but here are a couple that wouldn't change the cost (much).

You should check out some AMD builds. You can get a much better build if you go that route. The best AMD CPU (Phenom II X4 955) out right now only costs 122 pounds. A good AMD mobo is the ASUS M4A70XTD EVO (84 pounds). RAM would be G.Skill Ripjaws 1333 mhz CL7 for 80 pounds. That GPU should also be switched for a new Radeon HD 5770 for 120 pounds.

I think those would add only 26 pounds to the cost.

My budget for building this is between £600 - £700. The parts were chosen by a friend of mine because in all honesty i have very little knowledge about building computers.

Do you need an OS (70 pounds)?

Check out the stickied thread "How to ask for new build advice". It gives us a lot of important information to maximize the build.

I'd also look into a lot of the resources on choosing parts and building the computer. It's not that hard, but research is key.

The 8200 is a pretty old processor and does not overclock very well. I would go with the phenom II 955 or the i5 750 as previously stated.

I would not get any monitor less than 20" these days.

Dell IN2010IN 20" TFT Monitor 1600x900 £92.98

or

Viewsonic VA2213W 22" TFT Monitor 1920x1080 £106.99

I can get a windows 7 student copy for 30 pounds so i dont need to worry about that. Ill have a look on the advice pages though.
