Hmm.. Your going in the right direction, but you could do better.

This hdd is faster than the Caviar Black, which makes all your software move faster too:

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181
$55 -Freeshipping

If your using professional software your going to want a quad core cpu, over clock it and you pretty much have a Phenom II x4 on your hands:

AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103706
$99 -Freeshipping

Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 - Retail

This case offers better cooling and plenty of hdd slots for a lower price:

Antec Two Hundred Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129070
$40

This mobo is much cheaper and offers the same quality and reliability. The mobo you picked is for crossfire, if you don't use it its a waste of money:

GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Your ram and psu are good picks though.

Yeah but then he would be getting a tri core cpu for professional software which is inappropiate for what he wants to do with it. Getting a quad-core would provide better performance at a lower price.

True it is a good deal...The tri-core is better than the propus quad isn't?

And also should i go for vista or 7? and should i get home premium or professional?

That all looks great! But I would suggest getting the cooler too. This way you can overclock your quad-core to be as powerful as AMD's premium cpus!

@MothMusic it would depend on the software that he would use...
In some cases the 620 would be better but in other apps, that is dependent on the cache, there the X3 would be a better option...

@musicman978 not necessarily the Tri is better than that Quad...like I said, it would depend on the apps that you will use...

And as for OS, WIN 7 no doubt... WIN 7 home premium would do but still check this thread...

True, true. But you know as well as I do that more and more software are going to be utlizing multiple cores. And with that heatsink I suggested plus the good cooling from the Antec 200, he could overclock that Propus to over 3ghz, much better than the tri.

True, true. But you know as well as I do that more and more software are going to be utlizing multiple cores. So the quad is ready for the future, the tri not so much. And with that heatsink I suggested plus the good cooling from the Antec 200, he could overclock that Propus to over 3ghz, much better than the tri.

ok awesome i will go with WIN 7 home premium.

Also, isn't the tri-core an awesome overclocker???

^ Yes...Once overclocked, the X4 would be a better option...
And also for to reach 3GHz, I dont think you would require an aftermarket CPU cooler too...My friend has Phenom II Quad 3.1GHz at stock HSF(not the one that comes with the Phenoms II X4s)...

EDIT: The Tri will overclock better and easier than that Athlon because of the unlocked multiplier...

and just a suggestion - If you will be buying the X3 and mobo combo, and if you are not a regular gamer, for the games that you play, the onboard video is powerful enough to play those games at decent settings...So first off try the onboard and then later if you want buy the graphics card...

Yea, those Phenoms IIs overclock surprisingly well using just the stock heatsink. But think of the potential with the aftermarket heatsink, maybe almost 4ghz! Plus the HS is 50% off with free shipping, why not get it?

why not get a cheaper mobo with a Radeon 4200 inside instead?

^ I dint say not to buy it but only said will not be required if the overclock is not that high...and that too the OP will be trying to overclock for the 1st time...so an overclock to 3GHz is a safe bet...
But if the OP has some cash left over, then certainly go for the CPU cooler...

EDIT: 4200 will be slower than the 3300...but the 4200 is also a good option...

That makes sense. Its just I wouldn't suggest a tri core unless you had $500 or less budget, then it would be an Athlon II 425..

What? I never heard that. BASED ON WHAT EVIDENCE! :na: But really though, is this true? How can a gpu from an older series be stronger than a newer one?

Oh and AMD's overclocking software makes it easy, even for newcomers to over clock without going into the bios.

^ Yes... the 3300 is the faster one...The HD 4200 is slower compared to the 3300 ;)
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-785g-chipset,2381-11.html
But the 4200 has some improvements over the 3300 though...

And @musicman978 I just browsed through the Sonar website...It is optimized for multithreading, hence even I would suggest the X4 620 over the X3 as the additional core would be beneficial and once you overclock the CPU to 3GHz or more, then it would be a very good setup for your requirements...
