Seagate 7200.11 Clicking Sound

Component Seagate 7200.11 1500GB ST1500341AS P/N 9JU138-568 Firmware SD35 Date Code 09133 Site Code TK

PC effected by - PC locked up, rebooted and would not get past BIOS screen. As a fluke i unplugged SATA on another drive the system would boot very slowly with this drive attached but it did not show in bios.

Once i removed the drive from the system i plugged in the other hard drive the system booted normally.

I removed the HD from the pc and put it in a USB external enclosure. on powering it up it will click 4-5 times at an even interval pace and does not initialize.

by the Discription could anyone tell me if this is a BSY / Firmware issue that could be fixed or if it is a physical problem.

  1. Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

A 'clicking' sound is an indication of impending failure. Replace the drive, and do not use it for any storage purpose. Your data is more valuable than the hard drive it is stored on.
  2. +1^

Save your data ASAP and RMA the drive.
  3. I forgot to mention that the Seagate 7200.11 has some known issues that were resolved in their .12 series.
