Is there any difference between 512MB and 1024MB @ ATI 4870?

Hi all!


I'll be quick - I want to buy the ATI 4870 and I dont know if the difference of 30$ more for 1GB memory is justified. I'll use the card not only for gaming, but also for graphic , motion, 3d modeling software (all the demanding s*ity programs in this field)


What do u thinK?

It is useful for that card, especially at high resolutions. $30 is a bit steep though. If it's around the same price you may want to get an HD5770 instead.

+1 for the 5770, theres no point buying an old card when a new card performs slightly better, has DX11 and is roughly the same price, also the 5770 is a 1gb card

Every application is different, so it's hard to say whether or not you'll benefit from the extra memory. Generally speaking, if you run 2560x1600, you'll almost certainly need 1GB, if you run at 1920x1200 or 1920.x1080, you'll likely benefit from it at some point. Lower resolutions probably won't benefit at all.
