Trying to put a cd burner into my computer

Hello,

(important - you will have to shut off your computer to do this, and also you will have to unplug the computer from the wall if you are doing this yourself.

Depends on whether or not you would like to "replace" your current drive or "add" the new one. If you are "replacing" the old drive, you should be able to just open up your case, take out the old drive, and swap it with your new one.

Depending on whether or not there are screws - you may have to use a phillips head screw driver (most common).

Although a lot of drives these days come with side rails - you may have to unscrew these and put them on your new drive. You may want to take a good look at them both before you do so you can tell where to put the side rails to slide in your new drive in.

Also you should be able to use the same molex power connector and Sata (slim cable about the width of a finger)/IDE( fat cable about the width of 3/4 fingers) connector depending on the age of your computer.

Do you know what kind of case you have and could you tell us where you have the current drive located? We would be able to help you a bit better with this information.
