PC can't view (or list ) contents of 500G external drivedrive

Hi,

I have a 500 Gig external drive about a quarter full of music and other media. It has been connected to my desktop PC for over 3 years.

Recently my PC is unable to view any of the files or folders in the drive. It recognizes the drive in "my computer" but when I access it it looks empty!

In "properties" for the drive it says the drive is half full, which is correct.

So I tried plugging the drive into my extra USB ports on the computer and get the same result.

Here's the kicker...If I plug the drive into my spare laptop I SEE AND CAN ACCESS ALL THE FILES THERE!!

This leads me to beliee I'm just a click or two from solving this puzzle.

Maybe the files are set to 'hidden'.

did you try show all files in appearance and personalization in the control panel?

Teaser...yes I did.

Shape....If they were set to hidden I don't think I'd see them on my laptop

I've attached other external drives to the PC and see those files fine.
