When I built my system almost 2 years ago I was all for PC gaming, but since them I have become really big on encoding and fansubing and more on console gaming.

I primarily use my PS3 for everything now, I stream videos/audio off my PC through my PS3, Watch Blu-rays, browse the internet, and game on it. I know I could always hook up my PC to my TV, but I am dead set against it as I don't like the complicated navigation and use of KBM.

Now I mostly use my PC for encoding DVDs and Anime, doing fansubs etc. Reading the news, and playing RTS games.

Now I know quad core is the way to go for encoding and video editing. My current system is built for gaming, It needs an upgrade, but im not looking to do an extreme makeover on it.

As of now mp PC houses these guts.

Antec 1200 Case
Asus P5N-D Mobo
E8400 Processor OC'd @ 4GHZ w/ Zalman 9500a
Single 8800GT 512 OC'd
750w PC Power and Cooling PSU
4GB DDR2 Ram
1TB HDD
1.5TB HDD
2x500GB HDD
DVDRW/CDRW

I have a job and make enough money for any kind of upgrade, but don't want to spend a whole lot unless it will give a big increase.

I just want to speed up the Transcoding, Encoding, and ease stuttering of some HD content I watch. I would also like to have more Sata ports as of now I have 4.

OK So I decided on a Sapphire 5850 at $309 from Newegg.

Now heres the tricky part. I did some pricing and came up with these changes,

i7 920 $288
ASUS P6T Deluxe $289
OCZ Gold 6GB DDR3 $149

Sub-Total $726

or

ASUS M4A78T-E $129.99
Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 $94
Phenom II X4 955 BE $165

Sub-Total $389.98
