Semi-powerful PCI card

I have this prebuilt Dell computer that has a Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz processor, 1 gig of RAM, and solely onboard graphics. It's really quick in Windows, but can't play games worth crap. I wanted to upgrade and put in a discrete GFX card, but it only has PCI slots. Any recommendations on a PCI card (Nvidia or ATI) that would be able to play a few good games (i.e. I'm thinking I want to use this for LAN parties, so games like CounterStrike, Borderlands, COD4 (maybe?)) I was wondering if anybody here has some recommendations for a semi-powerful card that would allow me to play several good games on lower settings.

About the best you can hope for. You'd definitely get a boost up from your current integrated graphics.

I think the PCI interface will limit any chances of reasonable gaming performance. One of the NewEgg reviewers said it was "slightly better" than his existing GMA 950. That's hardly an endorsement!

wow those are expensive cards with such a poor performance.... not sure if it's worth it...
