I have a IBM 770X with a screen problem. The screen suddenly went out the
other day, I am able to see enough of it to log into windows but nothing
after that. It looks like the screen has been dimmed down all the way.
Can anybody advise me on what I can do to possibly repair it.
(I was able to borrow a friends monitor to use to get my data off)
I'd like to give it to my son if I can get it repaired cheap.

Thanks In Advance

Carlos,

Same happened to mine while it was still under warranty; so, IBM EZerve
replaced it for me. But, you should be able to do it yourself.

Check for the 770 Hardware Maintanence Manual at:
ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/37l5152.pdf

You may find the following post helpful; however, note that the

Changing the inverter was easy, 3 screws to divide the lid, unplug the
inverter on both ends and 1 screw to loosen the inverter itself.
The most tricky part was to make sure that the sliding knob for the
"dimmer" fell into the right place when I put it back together.
(And that was not very difficult)

The IBM support pages are actually very good, with "exploded" view of
the whole lid in case you wonder how it is put together. The inverter
from the IBM shop even came with new "sticky dots" to cover the holes
for the screws. (Hey, looks like new!)

All in all, easy job, well spent 80 dollars IMHO. (I might throw in
another memory chip for this laptop now, and it'll be useful for a few
more years.)

No sound on IBM T40
By snurp85, 1 day ago:

Buried deep within the IBM website there is a page for downloading drivers for the T40. Just download and install the one needed for sound. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/ [...] 6258#audio If you already have the driver installed, then id suggest reinstalling it for good measure. Try going into control panel and opening up the audio panel to make sure it isnt muted
