Computer for a friend

I'm building a computer for a friend that's sole purpose is gaming. He has a budget of around 1100$ CAD. I just wanted to have somebody's opinion on the parts that I picked out and if everything would work together. Also the big heatsink is because I plan on overclocking that core i5 to 4.2GHz.

I would get this heatsink instead; it costs less than half as much. I know from personal experience that it is good for 4.2ghz with the 750. It performs the same if not better than that $80 one.

You could probably cut some costs down like getting a Samsung F3 500gb drive for half the price.
A 5850 would be nice to fit into that budget...I built an i5 750 build with an 5850 for ~$850 USD after MIR; you just have to look for combo deals.

for the mobo i think he might want to crossfire that graphics card when the price gets better and im probably gonna keep the power supply because i can reduce clutter. I'm going to look into changing the heatsink and the harddrive.

I just have a question, which RAM would be better. This Corsair or the G.SKILL. I have a Core i5 processor and I heard that Intel limits the clock of the memory to 1300MHz but that I can remove this some how. Anyways if anyone can tell me which RAM to use and how can i remove the locked clock speed.

+1 for the Samsung F3 and the GSkill RAM and the Hyper 212+.

If possible:
Get a HAF 922/932 or an Antec 900/1200 esp. if planning to CrossFire.

Corsair is good, but that Gskill would be better due to it needing a lower voltage (1.5v vs 1.65) even though the speed and timings are the same. Anyway, good build

Okay, I found the Spinpoint F3 500GB on Amazon.com. I replaced the old antec case with a haf 922 and I replaced the Corsair RAM with the GSkill RAM. I think I'm going to keep the Noctua heatsink though cause it appears to be of higher quality than the cooler master hyper 212 and I want to push above 3.8GHz. Thanks for all your help, just one more question, would anyone recommend another 1156LGA motherboard that has support for crossfire? Also if it could match the price or cost less and if this one http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128409 which was recommended above is a good replacement to the MSI one I have already selected. Thanks.

^Actually, the CM and Noctua are about the same in performance and quality imo. The Noctua just happens to be more silent than the 212+.

if you want it bit cheaper. Both the ASUS Pro and the Gigabyte UD4 are good boards.

Okay well I found the 212 at NCIX.com and I swapped out the MSI for that ASUS Pro mobo. Now I'm unable to find a Samsung F3 on Newegg, TigerDirect and NCIX and Amazon won't ship it to Canada. So which hard drive to you think I should buy. 500GBs preferred. I was looking at these two.

I'd go for the WD Black. Never used a Hitachi (cause I have heard Bad Things about them).

pretty sure that Asus MOBO is on the Foxconn socket. Be very careful with the voltages on that board, as many people trying to go above 4.0ghz have ended up frying their CPU's.

Good idea would be to try and stay under 1.35v with a Foxconn socket.

I checked the reviews of the board and most reviewers were able to push a Core i5 to 4.2GHz with this MOBO.

Long as you're aware of the issue. Sorta a disclaimer so in case you do fry his system you can't come here and say we didn't warn you =D

You could also just pick up the P55 UD4P from gigabyte. It's not Foxconn and it's got USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 for the same price.

Alright we'll I guess I'm swapping MOBO again with this P55 UD4P. I also picked out the 500GB Caviar Black drive. I'm also deciding to keep the Noctua fan since if I would buy the Hyper 212+ from NCIX with shipping it would come out to around the same as if I bought the noctua together with all the other things.

Here's the final list. If anyone has any *sigh* more suggestions.
