OK, so I am buiöding a new gamer system with a Powercolor HD5750. The only problem being that my motherboard says it only has a PCIe2.0 slot but the GFX-card says it needs a 2.1. Would the system still work as it is or do I have to get a different motherboard?

dont worry . All pci express are backward compatible. same speed nothing new from 2.0. even the most demanding graphics card cant use all that speed from pci express 1.0.

" PCI-E 2.1 supports a large proportion of the management and support/troubleshooting systems that will be fully implemented in PCI-E 3.0, but it runs at a PCI 2.0 link speed." from wiki

Yep, it is fine. you could even run it in a PCI-E 1 slot if needed.
