On Ubuntu, the I can hear sound coming from the onboard speaker but can't get any audio when I plug in the headphones. Strangely, on Windows XP I have a "No Audio Device" problem and the only sound I hear on both the onboard and headphones is the beep sound that you hear during boot up.
