Forum CPU & Components : CPUs System crash

my 8400 started to repeat my typing of a letter while on web, I tried to shut down and would only allow hibernation so I shut down manually. Could not restart - only heard a high pitched wining sound and a geiger counter sound. 4 diagnostic lights showed a-c green with d yellow. connections looked ok so I unplugged and replugged the hard drive plug - now all lights green but no change - is my hard drive fried? Never got a blue screen which would have let me prepare for the worse.

If fried, can I save any data with some equipment out there?
