if i unistall the drivers and check with gpuz the clocks are correct but with the drivers installed they throttle??? but surely if it was a drivers issue someone else would have the same problem and i havent come across anyone with this problem/?? please help im going crazy :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:

ok things ive done

*fresh install of windows so that previous drivers cant be blamed at all the 9.11 drivers are the only ones ive installed and i made sure they are for my os
*ruled out psu since i was running a 4850 b4 with the same setup and it draws more power than a 5770
*gonna post a screen shot of something i think some one could make sense of its the profile from overdrive but still with stock settings and i can see where it is getting the 600mhz from but im scared to edit anything here will post screen shot here please guys help??? thanks in advance ;)
not sure bout screen shots here lol not needed though here is the file

Run a windowed benchmark , say Furmark, with gpu'z open or any way you check your gpu mhz. The maximum speed will return immediately, this is a power saving feature.
I have a 4770 that goes down from 800 to 250. NORMAL.

ya forgot to mention that i already did the gpuz thing! set gpuz to record the max for core and mem and ran 3d mark played games and the lot and it still reports maximum of 600 on the core??? im so confused
December 13, 2009 1:06:43 PM

i think im just going to change the 600 value to 850 and see what happens will leave the mem clock same as it is already reporting stock speed its just the core oh well here goes
December 13, 2009 1:14:25 PM

ok i forced 850mhz and it worked :D  ran quake3 for a bit but im scared to play a high end game or run 3dmark06! i need to know why it was doing this? wont i damage the card if i run it like this forced to 850! it still idles at the really low setting but in q3 atleast it was at 850mhz! still need help as to why it does this?? really dont want to damage the card

I think that's okay, 5770 core clock at stock is 850MHz, so it's it current speed...
Just check your temps, if at that speed your temps is good then continue it...

oh well what the heck im going all out gonna install dirt2 dx11 holding thumbs
December 13, 2009 1:39:49 PM

dam it crashed but i think ive got it! really exited now! im no pro on this stuff but i was looking at the profile i pasted and i changed the 60000 to 85000 but then if you see a bit down it seems like the voltage for 850 has to be higher for 850 than for 600! just makes sense hey i changed the second to volages to the match the 2 850 values above so here goes again! if this works ill screem been at this problem for like 4 days and i cant believe i havent seen anyone else with the same problem

omg it working perfectly for now touch wood!! i really hope this makes it easier for anyone else to fix this problem if they come across it! my temps only went up to 62 and i left the fan on auto gonna run 3dmark06 now but going to force fan to 100%

good to hear that... :)
December 13, 2009 2:19:15 PM

would still really like someone to explain why it is doing this though i think its the drivers! i bet there are lots of ppl running the card just like that coz if you didnt run benchmarks and check the speeds you wouldnt even notice in games! thanks for the support wa1! shot for the help
December 13, 2009 2:54:14 PM

oh great i spoke too soon! everything runs fine till i restart then as the catalyst loads the screen goes grey or black or blue a different one evertime!so i booted in safe mode and did a system recovery and recovered pc to b4 i forced the changes! only thing i think i can do for now is to reset to a default profile b4 i restart pc everytime but that really is a pain! dam please someone must know about this and have a better fix than this

uhh... now i think that's a bad card...
Have u run a furmark like notty22 said?
December 13, 2009 3:33:24 PM

its not the card it runs anything i ran 3dmark06 like 3 times in a row even overclocked a little and no problems its like as soon as i force the the clocks its corrupts something in the catalyst coz as soon as the catalyst starts on the next reboot it happens how can that be the card? i might be wrong but thats my logic
December 13, 2009 3:50:49 PM

ive tried msi after burner but that also doesnt work! it overclocks the gpu can even see the overclock in the ati catalyst overdrive tab but still only reporting 600 and i know its not a reporting error coz i can see the difference in benchmark scores! im confuzzlewhipped
December 13, 2009 4:15:09 PM

gonna try install only the latest driver without the catalyst and then try msi? you never know

December 13, 2009 4:36:31 PM

tried the driver only same thing! sigh! its club 3d im not going to waste my time with them i didnt even get drivers on the driver cd just a link to amd driver website how lame is that? and when you try give feedback to amd bout this they dont have the 5770 in the drop down to choose what card you giving feed back about? fishy!
December 15, 2009 6:47:38 AM

December 15, 2009 7:05:40 AM

December 15, 2009 9:04:58 PM
