Is there a way to see if a power supply still works

ok si had a computer, but something happened with the motherboard and it fried most of the parts. including video card, RAM, and processor. so i have a new computer now but my old power supply is larger so i wanted to use it instead. but is there a way to tell if it still works? besides putting it in the computer? and is that dangerous? i dont want it to explode or anything and blow up my new computer

You can try the paper clip test which does not require a connection to the motherboard or other components.
