What brand power supply do you have? How are your temps? Is your power supply rated 80 Plus?

It sounds like the power supply can not handle the load. If your power supply is not rated at 80 Plus these sort of things happen because there is not enough steady juice powering your entire system under full load.

This may also be a defective power supply or might have become unstable recently.

Yeah, I believe that would be your problem. The 5850 will want 500W along with your entire system under full load. If you power supply is not 80 Plus it will not relay enough power to your entire system.

80 Plus power supplies constantly relay their stated power throughout you system and often go over what they specify. Power supplies not rated 80 plus or higher will stop at their designated level like 550W. If you had purchased an 80 Plus power supply I'm pretty sure you would be all good.

This power supply will do the trick! $79.99 and a $10.00 mail in rebate.
