W XP reinstall: will not accept original key code

Hello, I am reinstalling Windows XP on the same ASUS Z7100 laptop it originally came with. I am using the code from the original disk envelope. Ain't working -- help!!

isn't the product key printed on the bottom of the laptop? if you have further difficulty please contact microsoft for assistance with your product key.

Actually that was what worked -- BUT only with Caps Lock turned ON. Then for the next disk to work it wanted the code from the envelope -- with Caps Lock turned OFF. My first reinstall, so I learned a bit. Thanks!
