Hi all,

I have a pretty old computer and I would want to upgrade it. I've already upgraded it once with a new powersupply (400 w) and a GFX card (Radeon 4670).

A lot of games run like a charm now. Sweet.

However, I would like to upgrade my CPU just because it's too slow/old by now. What would you recommend to me?

Here's my following specs:

Motherboard: RS780HVF
1 PCI express 2.0 x16
Maximum Memory : 8GB
Total Memory Slots : 4
Memory Type : DDR2 PC2-5300 (667MHz) DIMM

CPU: AMD Phenom 9150e 1.8 GHz Quad-Core

RAM: 2GB (probably will upgrade this in the future too)

GFX: Radeon 4670

Thanks in advance for suggestions. Looking forward to them. :)

The motherboard code means nothing to me - who's the manufacturer? Is it socket AM2 or AM2+?

If your motherboard is AM2+ then you should be able to drop in a new Phenom II and you're flying without having to change anything else. If it's only AM2 then you're probably out of luck and will need new motherboard as well.

In fact, if you're getting a new motherboard then you might as well get socket AM3 so you're up-to-date but you'll have to replace your RAM with DDR3 too.

So, in a nutshell, if your current motherboard is only socket AM2 then you're realistically looking at a whole new system to do an upgrade.

I don't know the manufacturer, as it came packed inside the PC without any indication of who made it whatsoever, but the Internet says it belongs to Acer so...
