How hot should an I7 2600K be?

On a STOCK Intel cooler running at the STOCK speeds i'm getting:

28-39 idle/browsing the web
69-72 using Prime95

I'm using real temp to monitor.

Are these normal given the conditions listed above?

Whats are your room temps?
they seem in line with normal limits though for stock cooler,

These are normal temps. The real question is why are you using a 'k' cpu at stock? with only the stock heatsink?

Those temps are fine. With any cooler you want to be in the low 70s max under Prime 95 load testing. My temps are roughly the same or maybe a few degrees lower at 4.5Ghz with my Scythe Mugen 2. I have an Antec 1200 case with 7x 120mm and 1 x 200mm fans too though.
