Hey guys,

I found a great deal on this OCZ 600W power supply and I am wondering if it will power my future computer plans.

This is the system i am looking at powering:
Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3 gHz
6 GB ddr2 ram (2x2 Gb + 2x1 gb) Total of 4 sticks of ram
2 7200 rpm sata hard drives
1 external USB 7200 rpm hard drive
2 LG super multi dvdrw/cdrw drives
4 120 mm case fans

I am going to buy a Radean 5770 1gb in the near future and would like the new power supply to power another one down the road.
So I would have the above system plus 2 5770's in crossfire.

I have looked at a few psu wattage calculators and gotten some differing answers. One told me that a minimum psu of 350 watts was good enough and a couple others said I would need a 650 watt minimum.

Thanks

Your 600w PSU should be fine, since the 5770 only has a max TDP of 108w. So running two in concert (unless you overvolt) will run no more than 216w under a full load.

Unfortunately, you'll need a PSU with 2 6-pin PCIEx connectors to power both cards (each card has a 6-pin PCIEx connector).

It's a bit more expensive, but I've heard good things about Corsair Powersupplies.
It's also modular, which is a big plus. If it's too pricey, let me know and I'll help you find something
a bit more cost effecient.

If you were going with something bigger, I would recommend a larger powrsupply, however,

I think you should be fine I run my system including 2 HDD with an OCZ 600w PSU.

Thanks guys. The different calculator results really threw me off, so I decided rather than chance it I would ask here.

You will be fine.

Here are the official ATI power supply requirements for the ATI Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 video cards:

450 Watt or greater power supply with one 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended

600 Watt or greater power supply with two 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode

The recommendations are for an entire pc system.

It says in the specs (everywhere I looked except on ncix) there there is 1 x 6-pin PCI-E and 1 x 6+2-pin PCI-E (instead of just an 8-pin PCI-E). Couldn't I use the 1 x 6+2-pin as the power connector for the 2nd 5770?

wattra - the 6+2 pin PCI-e connector can be used as either a 6 pin connector or an 8 pin connector. it was designed so it could be used either way. Just use the 6 pin for the connection. No problem. :D

Good choice for a pc case. I have the K60. Ventilation, airflow, and cooling are excellent.

Good Luck!

Oh, I didn't see the 6+2, I just saw one 6 and one 8 (listed as 8 rather than 6+2). I should have looked up the specs elsewhere, sorry for the confusion.
