AM2+ and AMD X4 Phenom-II Quadcore Processor

My motherboard is ZOTAC with NVIDIA 8300 chipset, which sports an AM2+ processor socket. I heard that AM2+ socket (with 940 pins) is also compatible for use with AM3 processors (with 938 pins). I have upgraded the BIOS downloaded from Zotac for supporting X4 Phenom-II processor. I wish to know if the AM3 processor X4 Phenom-II is compatible with my motherboard? Please clarify.

  1. According to this, your board will support up to a Phenom II 955

So to answer your question, yes your board will support most AM3's (for a specific one, check the list).
