My laptop Cd drive not detecting cd

Hello,
I have burnt the xp iso on a RW cd.I inserted the cd in the cd drive.The drive is not detecting the cd.When i manually tried exploring cd drive it popped a window stating insert the disk.
what can be the issue and how can i fix it.

did you verify the disk when you burnt it?

do you have any single use CDRs you can try?

How old is the cd-rom drive, some really really really really old ones can't read CD-RWs?

I tried other cd and dvds too,but the cd drive is not detecting them and pops a msgbox 'insert disk'.I have compaq presario v2000 laptop.

I am facing many other issues also...like
i am not able to uninstall antivirus software,MS office and other apps too.
The machine gets hang sometimes.
My computer is not opening.
But in safe mode it was working fine.there too i couldnt unistall the softwares as the windows installer service was disabled.

Any solution ?
