Use thermal paste that came with CPU?

building my own first system. Got me an AMD X3 chip. It comes with it's own thermal compound on the heatsink. Should I just use that or should I scrape it off and use something else?

I bought a thing of arctic something thinking I would need it.

Use the thermal grease that came with the CPU. If you ever need to remove and reinstall it, then use the Arctic something that you bought (probably AS5).

I would use the arctic silver 5. The stuff the heatsink comes with isn't bad, but the artic silver is a better and should give you a slightly lower load temp, if you apply it properly anyway .
