Need advice on buying the Radeon 5970 and best compatible monitor

Hello All,

My current gaming system is 2 y/o, so I will be building a new one and buying parts over the next 2 days.

The video card will be the Radeon 5970 but I don’t yet know the manufacture (HIS, Sapphire, XFX, Diamond). The spec’s sheet shows a max resolution of 2560 x 1600 through the integrated dual-link DVI output.

I want to buy a compatible monitor and found two monitors with a max resolution of 2560 x 1600 on Newegg for about $1150 to $1250.

The games I like are MS Flight Simulator X, shooting, and racing games. Will I be able to take advantage of such a high resolution? If these games or most game don’t go up this high, perhaps I should consider a resolution in the area of 1920 x 1080 which is half the price of the two monitors above.

Thanks in advance
Jim

The maximum resolution on almost all cards is 2560x1600, it has nothing to do with the HD5970. That card is one of the few that should be considered for gaming purposes at that resolution however. Those monitors are VERY expensive however as you can see. For less money you could get 3 1920x1080 monitors and use Eyefinity instead;

I suppose I would have a much more enjoyable gaming experience by using Eyefinity; this term is new to me and I am learning about it. One 5970 card should work being that one port must use the DisplayPort and then there are two other DVI ports. I think I could use my 50 inch plasma TV as one of the monitors.

Thanks for your suggestions.
