hello there, been reading these forums for a while and haven't seen anything about the GTX 275 lately

i know both Nvidia and ATI have new cards coming out.

my question is am upgrading from a 8800gt, and looking at a GTX 275 atm, most i can afford atm.(300$canadian total), looking at a EVGA GeForce GTX 275 Superclocked 648MHZ 896MB 2.376GHZ DDR3(896-P3-1171-AR)

am not a big fan of ATI, always ended up with bad cards from them, plus i am a perty big user of the Cuda feature.

but i am interested to know if there's a card out there that would out perform the 275 gtx for under 300$.

also if i get teh 275, i could use the 8800gt as a physics cards? i read that somewhere just need to find out how i could do that or if its possible.

and would it all be worth it? are the new cards coming out realy gona change allot and when would that happen?

Thanks
Pat

*edited a little for 2x250's*

There are no new videocards coming out from either companies. ATI's 5xxx series are here and Nvidia has nothing on the table. You can buy a 4890 for under 200USD, with some very easy overclock it beats the GTX285. So this is the best bang for your buck, hands down. I see no logical reason to expend almost double on an inferior card just because it is Nvidia.

i see a Xfx Radeon Hd 4890 HD489XZSFC 1GB 850MHZ 1GB 3.9GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E for about 60$ less then the 275

currently using EVGA 132-CK-NF78-TR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI Motherboard, so a card like that radeon would be better performance then the 275? or is there a better model then the xfx

how would 2 GTS 250 in SLI work with a 650w SLI thermaltake psu on that motherboard work?(might need upgrading)

i use CUDA software allot(for work and fun) but use the same pc at home for gaming.

if you really into CUDA thing then you should get nvidia card. personally i prefer single card solution because not all games supporting SLI.if not we are going to wait for a while before the support are enable via game patch or driver update. other thing is dual card setup will also produce more heat and need more power to make it run properly.

unfortunaly the 295 is about twice my budget(they got upwards of 700$ cad) and almost impossible to find up here anyways

285$ are just supper hard to find too, but they do go for around 400-500 mark

and 275 are dissapearing like hotcakes on a cold winter day(like today) cant seem to find them today, all gone.

so am left with a 260 core 216(for under 200$) witch isn't bad i guess.

$294.99 CAD
~$279.99 USD

Oh man. But he's right... if you want Nvidia you're gonna end up paying sorely for some inferior cards for CUDA. Maybe you should look into ATi's Stream technology. Many programs that support CUDA have either ATi Stream plug-ins or there is an alternative program which supports it.
