Hi. I upgraded to an AMD Phenom II X3 720 and am using WinXP. After swapping the chip I reinstalled XP. I notice, however, that even if I turn off desktop sounds in XP (Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sound Tab > Sound Scheme set to No Sounds), sounds still play when I do stuff like double click on my hard disk icon (My Computer) or empty the Recycle Bin. Seems like XP didn't really completely turn off desktop sounds.

This never happened before the chip swap. Sometimes, when XP is loading, a series of beeps would come from the PC internal speaker.

I have also tried to reformat my PC again, but the same thing occurs. Not that it's a major problem, but one that I find weird.

Specs : AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE, ECS A780GM-A, 2GB DDR2-800 (Transcend), Palit ATI HD 4670 512MB, Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIE, Windows XP SP2.
