Hi,

I have just tested my system with 3D mark06 as I thought my fps wasn't great with my new 295 GTX card & I only got

13436 3DMarks

This seems pretty low for a 295?

More about : mark

It's because you're a bad person and God is punishing you for making a false idol out of 3Dmark.... or maybe it's because of other parts of your system you haven't listed.... or maybe it's just a synthetic benchmark and you should stop worrying about it and actually play a game and see if that improved after the new card! :sarcastic:

That socket 939 single core AMD will only push it so far! ;)

You have jokes, quality :sarcastic:

The reason I ask is not really much to do with what benchmark I can get with that program, not really bothered, I only downloaded it yest to test my card as I've have been having problems with cards I have been getting of BFG Tech.

I first bought a 275 0cx about 3 weeks ago and it would crash games and show weird graphic anomiles in game.
This would normally happen when the temps hit 70c.

So I RMA'd it and they sent my a 285oc & I was having the same problems, so they sent mr a 2nd RMA the 295.

This time I have set the fan to go to 70% auto as soon as games start so the temps stay below 70 and I havn't had any crashes of the game but it still struggles with cod5 with average frame rate of 60-70 & after reading about 5 benchmark reviews of this card it seems about half the power. If there is alot of intense action going on (alot of scripting to process) I still get wierd flashes of anomiles only in CoD ww at the moment.

I noticed cod5 is heavy on the cpu when playing that game, it's at about 75% so could it be the cpu holding back the card?

I have:

XP
Asus Striker MoBo
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz
3gb of ram
1100 Tagan - U96 psu

Sorry but when you post half baked questions it does call for jokes in return. ;)

Have you tried reinstalling XP? This could possibly be the problem. Usually after 3 different attempts with 3 different video cards you have to stop looking at the video card as the issue.

If you have a tester for the power supply you could make sure your voltages are good. Run hardware monitor to see what your voltages look like. Download from www.cpuid.com

Also, your ram voltages might need to be adjusted in your BIOS. This might not show as an issue until the system is under load. Some ram requires the ram voltages to be set at 2.0 and the BIOS is default set to 1.8. Go to you memory manufacturers website for that info...

Yeah I formatted my drive last week so this is a fresh install, I'll try the other things.

I have just installed Far Cry 2 to again & if I select optimal for graphics it sets everything to low, and if I put everything to ultra high My fps is about 30, which is pretty much the same as my old 8800 gtx was getting.

Even the 2 previous BFG cards were in the 70 - 80's on ultra high which Is why I was concerned considering this is supposed to be "one of the best" graphics cards out there it's performing terribly :(

First thing to test is system stability. Prime 95 for 12+ hours, and then some FurMark.

Even though you have a quad core, 2.4GHz really isn't that fast, that could be part of the problem.

For reference, I get about 18,000 in 3Dmark 06 with my system.

Ok thanks I will do this.

I also put back in my 8800 gtx to test with the benchmark 06 and it got just under 13000, which makes me think that there is def something else wrong with my system thats capping the gpu performance.

Also I noticed the card would'nt work in the first pci slot I had to put it in the 2nd slot

Are all your cores active on your CPU? Quick test, fire up task manager, go to the performance tab, and check you are seeing 4 graphs for the CPU.

Im bet the GPU's have nothing to do with the OP's issue....

Once you get things stable you should OC that Q6600. You can easily hit 3.4 or more depending on your motherboards support...

It's not the GPU. Before you remove the card and test it at your friend's house, why not overclock your quadcore to at least 3.2 (8 X 400) and see how the score goes up 15%. Which CPU is it?

Its the Q6600, look at his hardware monitor screenshot...

I've never used a GTX 295 so I have to ask if you have to enable the SLI mode since it's 2 GPUs sandwiched together.

Ok so I tested my card on my mates pc, his specs:

XfX 6801 q9550
vista x64
8gb ram
XfX 260 gpu

On bench 3d06 the card scored: 13461
On vantage it scored: 15930

His 260 on 06 scored 13975 & on Vantage 10161

His system is Vista and yours is XP, might be different socres?
But, his GTX 260 shouldn't beat your GTX 295.

What rev driver did you install and where did you download it from? I'm getting about 20000 in 3dmark06 with a GTX275 booting into XP and you should get at least that or in that ballpark. I'm OC'd to 3.6 on my Q9550, was your friends Q9550 OC'd or stock?

All his stuff is set at stock settings, he was using the drivers from the Nvidia site. But on my rig i've tried the nvidia site drivers and the new beta drivers from guru3d.

I think it's def a problem with the card as the 275ocx and 285 cards I had the frame rates on far cry were way higher on ultra settings.

Comparing my card with his 260 it seems like they performed the same on the bench06 & I read that the 295 is basically 2x 260 in one card so its like it's performing at half capacity.

I think I have bought the wrong 6 - 8 pin adaptor :sarcastic:

I noticed on the bfg site the card comes with a duel 6 pin to single 8 pin adaptor & I am only using a single 6 to 8 pin.
