Absolutely. Without a GPU, you could get away with less than half of that. Even WITH a GPU, 650W should be the most you'll need (and that's with a top end card).

Indeed - 850W is pretty much overkill for most systems. You have plenty of breathing room, power-wise.

That's a fair point, but even a "bad" 850W PSU would put out at least 600W, I would imagine, so, aside from quality concerns, it should be fine for almost any single card setup (which he didn't even mention using).

I have 750 with an i5-2500k OC'd to 4.0 with a 6850 OC'd to 975/1200. 850W is plenty!

Yeah that's true and some PSU get a bad rap because they make mostly crap but i am still in shock my buddy is running his i7-2600K OC @4.6GHZ an x2 GTX480 in SLI for over 6 months with this PSU http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=419877&Sku=T925-3083 must not be that bad of a PSU :lol:

Hm, but that Thermaltake PSU is 80+ bronze certified....so it's a fairly decent PSU. Not too crazy on the brand though. I usually stick with either Corsair or Seasonic.
