I think I may have a problem. I'm not very computer literate. Well in some aspects but not in hardware aspects. I got a gift from my father. A Q9400 Quad Core processor. I know my current motherboard won't support it. I got the computer as a gift. It is a Inspiron 530. 2.2 Ghz Dual core. E4500 I think. I want to know how I know what motherboard will fit in my case without being a pain in the rear or wallet. The current motherboard I have is 0RY007. Will the FM586 handle that processor? or what advice can ya'll give me? Any help would be appreciated.
Try the q9400 first in your old g33 motherboard. It might work. If it doesn't work, get the foxconn g41m-s HDMI for $61.99 plus $7.56 shipping at newegg.com. The 9400 will definately work with this board, it will fit your dell case, and dell uses foxconn motherboards in many systems, so you may avoid formating your hardrive to reinstall your dell windows copy.
IF you have never changed out a motherboard before, draw a diagram of each connector as you remove it. Read some faqs. Note the position of the dell case connector which has the power switch and other leads; Note the memory direction (which side the dell label is on) and ground your wrist before touching components to prevent electro static discharge damage. I worked at dell installing motherboards.
